This past June was the start of the school year here in the Philippines. This year we are sending someone to secondary (high) school and preschool. Eden is 16 and has 5 brothers and sisters, basically she had raised the youngest boy like he is her own. She is the only girl now living at home so does most of the washing up, cooking and hand washing laundry alone. Although school is free to go to there are lots of requirements. She needs a school uniform, books, pens, backpack, shoes, umbrella in case of rain, (she walks to school,) money for projects and to print off assignments and essays. It costs around £10 a month to send her to school! Even though that seems so little her family cannot raise that money or earn it. Education is so important in the Philippines because without it there are no good paying jobs.
